Oxford is a city of a thousand conversations. Most of them are about essays. A few of them are about the essay crisis, the tutorial that went wrong, or why someone's college is objectively better than yours. And every so often, someone says something so perfectly Oxford that it deserves to be written down.

That's where we started. But Oxford students don't only say brilliant things by accident. They have opinions, arguments and the occasional modest proposal, and those deserve an audience too.

What we do

Overheard at Oxford is Oxford, in its own words. That means two things.

Overheards. The best lines heard around the University: in libraries, quads, Hall, the Covered Market and the queue for Hassan's at two in the morning. You send them in, we read every one, and the best make it onto Instagram.

Articles. Op-eds written by Oxford students, for the things they actually mean to say. Witty, considered, occasionally contrarian, and always worth hearing out. Read the latest.

What we don't do

We're affectionate, not cruel. We never post names or anything that could identify the speaker, and we'd rather miss a good line than embarrass a real person. The submission rules explain how that works.

Who we are

A small, anonymous team of Oxford students with good hearing and questionable priorities. We're independent and not affiliated with the University of Oxford or any of its colleges.

Get in touch
